Lyons Court Residential Care Home in EssexCanvey Walk, North Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 6LB
Care home admissions during the Covid-19 pandemic
Safe admissions into our care homes includes the option for new residents to self-isolate in the comfort of their own home for 11 days, before joining us in the care home where they will be tested for Covid-19 and supported to self-isolate for 3 more days until the result of the test is known.
Having been rated ‘Good’ in every single area inspected in the care home’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) report; it’s easy to see why Lyons Court is so well regarded in the Chelmsford and wider Essex community.
One of the highlights of the CQC report was undoubtedly the glowing praise for the caring and kind nature of the team – the report commented: “People told us staff were exceptionally caring and warm towards them. For example, one person burst into laughter when a member of staff came into their room. It was clear that they had a lovely rapport together.”
Providing residential care, as well as respite care, the team works hard to help our residents to remain connected to the community outside the care home. Local church groups from Chelmsford and the wider Essex area come to Lyons Court to conduct services, especially for our residents. The team provides special hymn books in larger print for residents who need a little extra help.
The home is set in a beautiful location, with stunning gardens. One of the lounges is a converted wooden timbered barn, with high ceilings and full-length windows, this magnificent room is a real hub for the home’s activities.
Coming soon… our care home choir
Lyons Court is also starting its own choir. Plans are being finalised so watch this space! Youngsters from the local nursery in Chelmsford are regular visitors to the home and often treat us to musical performances, so it will be nice to return the favour and give them a sneak preview of our brand new choir!
Another fantastic activity going on at Lyons Court is a homework club we run to support our local college students. The college identifies skills the youngsters need additional support with and we ‘buddy’ them up with our residents who have those skillsets – for example, if a resident speaks French, or perhaps worked as a writer and so is skilled in literacy and grammar. This is a wonderful opportunity not just for the students but for our residents, who are able to share their valuable knowledge with the younger generation, which gives them a real sense of pride.
Welcoming loved ones to our home
Another area of the care home which received high praise was the way the team embraces the loved ones of residents into Lyons Court. The team are like an extended family and do everything they can to make those closest to the residents feel truly part of the home. One of the many lovely comments from the family members of residents in the home’s CQC report included: "We're very happy that the home hasn't taken over. We still feel involved. We get informed about any changes and any concerns.”
