Next door to St. John’s Church, Shaftesbury House is located in the historic town of Ipswich, Suffolk.
Situated in a quiet residential area, our care home is a short bus ride from the picturesque marina and all the shops, restaurants, art galleries, theatre and other attractions Ipswich has to offer.
Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including residential care, dementia care and respite care.
Our care home has been designed with the usual comforts you’d expect such as welcoming lounges, a light and airy dining room, courtyard garden and cosy bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.
However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make Shaftesbury House a true home from home.
We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.
We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at Shaftesbury House.
Our spacious 28 bedrooms are all en-suite and have telephone and television points.
Bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, although we do encourage our residents to bring personal ornaments, pictures and small items of furniture to make their rooms their own.
We have two homely lounges for our residents to use as they wish, whether taking part in activities, catching up with friends and family or simply reading a good book.
Our dining room provides a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy delicious home-cooked meals in the company of others.
The rear courtyard garden has a relaxing seating area and is a lovely focal point for summer events and barbecues.
Shaftesbury House’s features include:
- Spacious en-suite bedrooms, with telephone and television points
- Several lounge areas
- A dining room where our residents enjoy home-cooked meals
- Courtyard garden with outdoor seating area
- Wi-Fi enabled throughout the home.
We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things.
Regular activities on offer include everything from baking, music, singing sessions, animal therapy, bingo, quizzes, coffee mornings and arts and crafts.
We also host regular fun themed community events throughout the year including summer fetes, charitable fundraisers and Christmas fairs.
Our residents also take part in day trips into the heart of Ipswich to make the most of all the beautiful attractions right on their doorstep.
Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea.
Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements.
Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast.
Lunch and dinnertimes see a selection of sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole.
There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish.
We pride ourselves on treating people as individuals, so all our residents have care plans tailored to their individual medical, social and emotional needs. We review care plans on a regular basis and involve family and friends in this process wherever possible.
The range of personal care services we can provide, in partnership with local professionals, include:
- Optical care
- Dental care
- Key worker
Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.
To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.
Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.
