Dovecote Residential and Nursing Home is a 61-bed care home that provides personal and nursing care to older people, including people living with dementia or a dementia-related condition.

Our expert team provides individualised care in a modern, comfortable and supportive environment and encourages people to be involved in a wide range of leisure activities.

Accommodation

The environment at Dovecote is fresh, modern and tailored to the individuals we care for. The design is both stimulating and relaxing, helping to maintain the involvement and orientation of everyone no matter what their needs or abilities are.

Dovecote has 61 bedrooms and residents are encouraged to bring personal belongings and items of furniture to make their room more homely and familiar.

Several attractive lounges and dining rooms offer beautiful views over the landscaped gardens and many residents enjoy looking out at the scenery whilst dining or relaxing. To make access and mobility easier there are signs and wide halls.

We have an in-house hairdressing salon and other professionals including chiropodists, physiotherapists and opticians visit Dovecote regularly. We also respect and accommodate for any religious services residents choose to participate in.

Dovecote is conveniently situated in suburban Gateshead in a village that possesses a range of shops and amenities. Newcastle is only 16 miles away and the surrounding countryside provides an ideal location for day trips out. There are also frequent bus services to the Metro Centre and surrounding towns and villages.

Our team

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

To ensure residents health needs are met, we organise regular visits from the local GP. This considered and thorough monitoring compliments the excellent care that is already delivered by our highly experienced and qualified staff, to ensure the best level of support is given to our residents.

Activities

Residents are encouraged to pursue activities or hobbies they have always enjoyed and activities are tailored to the needs of each individual. We regularly run gardening initiatives and other fun events, including celebrations for 'national day' and VR Headset experiences. We also provide a choice of social and recreational activities in the community.

We are also mindful of the little things so take care in displays themed towards music, movies and local places, whilst memory boxes help residents recall memories, enhancing their mental wellbeing.

Care and Support

Many residents at Dovecote are locals to the area, so it’s important that as a home we reflect that making life more comfortable and enjoyable. Our environment is safe, homely and engaging for everyone and we make special efforts to ensure people feel secure and looked after.

From the very beginning, we build a bespoke care plan in conjunction with the resident and those closest to them identifying goals, needs and wishes for the person we are caring for.  To ensure we are keeping pace with our resident's changing needs and capabilities, this plan is reviewed regularly.

Home-cooked meals

Food at Dovecote is an important aspect of day to day life. We ensure all residents bespoke dietary requirement are met with a range of appetising fresh foods and snacks. As far as possible we look for individual's to decide on the foods they eat. This approach has shown itself to work best when maintaining the strength and nutrition of our residents.
