Lake and Orchard Residential and Nursing Home in York

Kelfield, York, North Yorkshire, YO19 6RE
Dementia care
Nursing care
Palliative care
Residential care
Respite care

Surrounded by countryside in the quaint village of Kelfield, Lake and Orchard is set in a picturesque location. Aptly named, the home boasts a paddock of orchard trees at the entrance; apple, pear and plum to name a few. To the side of the residential and nursing home is a beautiful fishing lake.

Our attentive and dedicated team provides residential care, nursing care, dementia care, palliative and respite care.

Nature really is at the heart of Lake and Orchard, with so many places to enjoy the true beauty of the 12 acres of untouched land surrounding us – including the River Ouse, which runs along the length of the home. In addition to our front gardens, which contain decked seating areas and a summer house, there are also several other gardens for our residents to enjoy.

The tranquil gardens are perfect for relaxing during the warmer weather, with wheelchair-friendly seating areas, flora filled pergolas and raised flower beds for our green-fingered residents, for whom we hold a weekly gardening club.

The en-suite bedrooms, many of which have views over the gardens, have been recently refurbished and are extremely spacious.

Keeping connected with our community

Lake and Orchard have a fantastic programme of activities for our residents. Making the most of our wonderful location. As well as the gardening club, our team supports residents to enjoy walks around the beautiful grounds. And for something a little further afield, the minibus trips and excursions to places across York and beyond are a real highlight.

The weekly trips include jaunts to the seaside at Scarborough for fish and chips, the marina at Naburn or even shopping trips to York’s designer outlet.

Passionate about helping residents to remain connected to the wider community, we support them to attend a range of events outside the residential and nursing home. With both a dementia coffee morning and Kurling Club twice a month at Portholme Church and monthly Memories Café at the local church, our residents love to meet new people.

Located in such a small village, we like to welcome people from the local community in Kelfield to visit us at Lake and Orchard. We often invite them along for celebratory events, including carol singing, our Christmas fayre and summer fete, with live entertainment, a Punch and Judy show and stalls galore.

Weekly activities also include arts and crafts, chair exercises, pet therapy, pamper sessions in our hairdressing and beauty salon and a bingo club.

At Sanctuary Care our number one priority is to keep our residents, their relatives and our staff safe.

With the increasing number of reported cases of Coronavirus in the UK, we have taken the difficult decision to minimise all non-essential visits to our residential and nursing homes until further notice. These include routine visits from loved ones and friends, entertainers, hairdressers, volunteers, work experience students and school parties.

We have not taken this decision lightly and understand this will be upsetting for relatives who want to visit loved ones. We do feel this is the best way to keep our residents safe and is one of many proactive, preventative measures we are taking to stop this infection getting into our homes.

We do hope you understand why we are taking these precautions. Please don’t hesitate to call if you would like to speak to us directly if you have any questions or concerns.
