Camilla House is a 39-bed care home located in the Grange, a desirable residential suburb of Edinburgh.
Our location, just minutes from the city centre, means that we have superb access to main road and bus routes. We’re also in a great position for visiting world-famous attractions and historical sights.
The home is an attractive grade two listed building with spacious living areas, many traditional features and extensive gardens.
We support people who are frail elderly, those living with dementia and also provide palliative and respite care. We are proud of our innovative approach to activities; we produce a fantastic food menu from scratch using fresh produce, and we ensure that our residents are at the heart at improving every aspect of life and living at Camilla. In addition, we are passionate about listening to our staff team and developing their skills and knowledge so we can provide the very best care.
Camilla House has 39 bedrooms; there is a mix of full en-suite (basin, toilet and shower) and partial en-suite (washbasin), as well as a number of resident bathrooms. There are three spacious lounges and three separate dining areas; residents choose where they want to sit, relax and dine. To the rear of the property, there is a large secure garden which has lawn and seating areas. This is a lovely place to enjoy the sunshine and do a bit of gardening in the fresh air. We also use the garden for family events such as summer fetes and BBQs. There is a generous amount of off-street parking at Camilla.
Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.
To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.
Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced PVG check, it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.
The spacious living areas allow us to be really creative with our activities and events programme. Our residents take part in weekly Oomph! exercise sessions, for cognitive and physical wellbeing, as well as samba, drumming and graffiti therapy. As well as group activities we ensure each individual spends time doing exactly as they wish one-to-one with a team member or loved ones. We also ensure there is plenty of quality time for quieter and more relaxing pastimes. Residents really enjoy gardening projects, reading daily newspapers and Reiki with a therapist. We also have developing links with local universities in relation to both music and art therapy and Kitty, our Therapet Border Collie is a regular visitor.
We receive monthly visits from the local churches who conduct services at Camilla, as well as welcoming our more able residents to their churches. A hairdresser comes in once a week and we have good community links with two schools, carer support groups and the residents’ association, ensuring that our residents feel connected to their local environment.
As well as regular movie nights and ordering takeaways as a treat, residents enjoy getting out and about using our own minibus to take day trips to the east coast and the Scottish Borders.
At Camilla, we pride ourselves on delivering person-centred care in a number of ways. One example is helping a resident, who was feeling particularly isolated from family members living overseas, to learn to Skype. She now enjoys regular contact with her loved ones.
Residents are encouraged to maintain their favourite hobbies and pastimes. We also help them to learn new skills including singing, taking up a musical instrument such as piano, or drawing.
There are no set times for waking up, eating meals or getting dressed. Residents choose exactly what they want to do and when including what to wear and how to spend their day.
Our chef prepares a daily set menu from scratch using fresh and nutritious produce yet residents can request exactly what they fancy at all times including grilled breakfasts and ‘chippy teas’! Dietary preferences and allergy requirements are always considered.
