Kintyre House Care Home in InvergordonSaltburn, Invergordon, Ross and Cromarty, IV18 0JX
Care home admissions during the Covid-19 pandemic
Safe admissions into our care homes include the option for new residents to self-isolate in the comfort of their own home for 11 days, before joining us in the care home where they will be tested for Covid-19 and supported to self-isolate for 3 more days until the result of the test is known.
Located in the picturesque rural port of Invergordon in Easter Ross, Kintyre House residential care home has panoramic views across Cromarty Firth.
With stunning landscaped gardens surrounding the home, we can often find residents sitting outside for lunch and taking part in activities during the warmer weather.
There is also a gate from the car park leading to Saltburn Community Gardens, which has a wheelchair friendly woodland walk.
Taking over in August, manager Joyce has worked in nursing and dementia care for over 30 years and is passionate about providing exceptional person-centred care that enriches lives. Her team boasts three dedicated activities coordinators and a chef of ten years, who prepares delicious home-cooked food.
What types of care services does Kintyre House provide?
Manager Joyce is in her third year of a Masters Degree in dementia, with deputy manager Jeniffer, a highly experienced dementia care nurse. The quality of care is key to the support we provide, and several members of staff also specialise as champions in areas such as falls prevention and infection control.
What facilities and services are available at Kintyre House Care Home?
The residential care scheme has a large conservatory overlooking Invergordon’s Cromarty Firth, where cruise ships often dock.
The bedrooms, the majority of which have en-suite showers, are spacious and some of the ground floor rooms have doors leading to a courtyard garden.
The care home also has a mobile shop that sells toiletries, sweets and everyday items. We can move the shop freely around the service, which is especially beneficial for our frailer residents. Many of our residents love the Kintyre Cocktail Bar, which is perfect for an evening tipple!
What type of activities are there at the care service?
Kintyre House has three specialist activity coordinators who focus on creating a high quality of life for all who reside with us. Our residents benefit from wonderful person-centred activities which are tailored to them individually, as well as social group activities.
We use a separate communal room for movie afternoons and activities, and we have a very talented member of staff who plays the violin and piano for our residents here.
Before the global coronavirus pandemic, residents would visit local landmarks and attractions in the care home’s minibus. They enjoy seeing the villages around Easter Ross and going to the theatre in Inverness. They also love to visit Shandwick House in Tain, with its ostriches, peacocks and alpacas. There are regular animal visits to the home too, from a pet therapy dog to birds from a local owl sanctuary.
More recently, due these strange times, we have been driving to the beaches around Balintore and Dornoch, enjoying the views from the minibus with a picnic instead of venturing outside.
Kintyre House also has four iPads, which are a fantastic way for our residents to stay connected to friends and family members over Skype and Facetime.
Food glorious food
Our chef Christine provides our residents with delicious home-cooked cuisine. The daily menu delivers tasty options for individual dietary requirements and also lighter bites for those with smaller appetites.
In ‘normal’ times, our residents love to visit patients at a local rest home for a spot of lunch and live entertainment.
