Idyllic setting
Off the beaten track, our home has the most peaceful, idyllic setting surrounded by woodland trees up a quiet winding lane.
Surrounded by beautiful woodland in a tranquil setting, our nursing home is in the heart of the rural community of Kirkton of Skene, Westhill. Our fantastic care team provides nursing care, dementia care, respite care and palliative care to our residents.
Making the most of the location, we have two gardens – one for our residents with more advanced nursing needs and one for our dementia suite. Our residents get great pleasure from relaxing in the idyllic gardens during the warmer weather. We are surrounded by trees, which are a haven for wildlife and the residents love watching the squirrels and listening to the calming birdsong.
Our virtual tours enable you to find out more about life in our care home and ask any questions you may have to a senior member of our team.
Our home has a pre-bookable designated visiting space to enable families to visit their loved ones safely. Please contact our home directly to pre-book.
In one of the gardens, we have sensory planting area and a stunning mural featuring a loch surrounded by poppies, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. This is close to the heart of many of our residents and we were proud to welcome people from the local community into our nursing home for its grand unveiling.
In the dementia garden, we have decking, seasonal plants and a bus stop donated by the local council. Many items in the gardens and home have been bought with a generous donation from a company in nearby Kingswells, as well as money raised through fundraising events and donations from residents, staff and loved ones.
Staff caring for our residents living with dementia can benefit from our Best Practice Training supported by the University of Stirling, an international centre of dementia expertise.
The home’s team is very well established and dedicated to maintaining the excellent reputation of Pitcairn Lodge within the local community. Two members of staff recently received long-service awards having been at Pitcairn Lodge for over 20 years.
Mealtimes are a real highlight for our residents, who love the variety of traditional Scottish fayre, from haggis, neeps and tatties and stovies to Aberdeen’s famous haddock.
Activities are also an important part of life in the at Pitcairn Lodge. Residents really enjoy regular visits to see pre-school children at a nearby playgroup in Westhill as part of ‘The Intergenerational Program’. This approach to activities is a fantastic way for residents to still feel very much a part of their local community, plus the children really enjoy coming here too.
Within our dementia care suite, there is a private dining area, affording our residents and their loved one's space and privacy they desire to enjoy special family gatherings in a relaxing environment. We also use this area for the ladies’ afternoon teas and the gents’ social activity sessions that we organise.
Pitcairn Lodge also features a reminiscence lounge in the suite where we care for our residents with more advanced nursing needs. This room is filled with items of memorabilia that capture the nostalgia of years gone by.
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their accommodation in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. Our weekly fees vary dependent on the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms through to our premium bedroom options. Prices start from £1,352 and may increase up to 20% dependent on your bedroom choice.
