Safe admissions into our care homes includes the option for new residents to self-isolate in the comfort of their own home for 11 days, before joining us in the care home where they will be tested for Covid-19 and supported to self-isolate for 3 more days until the result of the test is known.
Hastings is an attractive care home located in a quiet residential area of Barnards Green in the popular spa town of Malvern in Worcestershire.
With some rooms overlooking the magnificent Malvern Hills, Hastings Residential Care Home has the picture-perfect location for our residents.
Care Home Manager Sue Milward has nearly reached 39 years of service in the care industry and has been running Hastings for nine years. Her team are well established, giving wonderful continuity for her residents. The range of care services that our dedicated staff provide includes residential care, dementia care and respite care.
Activities at Hastings
Activities are without a doubt a very important part of life in the home. With a team of three activities staff and a range of skills, the variety of the activities in the home is as diverse.
For its recent Care Home Open Day, residents created their own artwork which they put on display to show people from the local community.
Regular weekly activities on the menu include Thai Chi, ‘News Chat’, where the daily newspapers are reviewed and the residents discuss everything from Brexit to the weather. There is even a poetry group where members pen their own creations based on the day’s theme.
For the ladies, there are pamper sessions where they enjoy a manicure and a hand massage. For the gents, there is a men’s only luncheon at Hastings every month, to which the male staff are often invited!
Our fascinating residents
We love to tailor activities to our residents. We recently invited a jazz band to perform and a resident joined in for a jamming session. Another of our ladies, who lives with dementia, recently wrote a list of things she would love to do before she hits 100. One of these was to spend time in a police car. So, with the help of a kind local officer from West Mercia Police, armed with handcuffs, she managed to tick one of these things off her list! In addition to this, we have a resident who once made hats for The Queen, as well as another who gives sugarcraft lessons to our team.
Zoolab comes into the home for a very different type of activities session, with everything from rabbits and reptiles to scorpions and stick insects. Other popular visitors to the home are children from nearby Malvern St James School. These schoolchildren enjoy taking part in activities with our residents or just having a chat. There are also a number of student paramedics from the University of Worcester who do work experience placements with us.
Each month we hold a coffee morning, complete with a mouth-watering coffee cake with buttercream icing. Resident's family members and loved ones usually join us for our coffee morning.
A beautiful new orangery will be open within the gardens of the care home soon. We are currently doing a gardening project where we are creating new raised planters which our residents will plant and look after.
Pre-bookable respite care at Hastings
Hastings Residential Care Home also provides short-term residential and dementia respite care from the comfort of our loving care home. Pre-bookable respite care gives carers the opportunity to book a break away on their own, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is receiving the very best care.
Stories from the home
We’re so thankful for the local kindness
The brilliant Arabella, aged 9, has sent us home sewn headbands to wear with our face masks. She says “Thank you key workers for all you do, stay safe.”
A room with a view
We’re very lucky with our location here at Hastings. Some of our bedrooms have a view of the Malvern Hills.
Never a dull moment
From armchair exercises to tai-chi, we’re an active bunch and love socialising in and outside the home.
Four legged friends
We love to welcome visitors into our home, especially pets who love a good fuss from residents and staff. Tigi was a firm favourite.
Bright and airy
Our communal areas are bright and airy. We dine, relax and also sing, dance and enjoy all sorts of activities during the week.
