Care home admissions during the Covid-19 pandemic

Safe admissions into our care homes includes the option for new residents to self-isolate in the comfort of their own home for 11 days, before joining us in the care home where they will be tested for Covid-19 and supported to self-isolate for 3 more days until the result of the test is known.

Ravenhurst is an attractive Edwardian care home situated in the canal-side town of Stourport-on-Severn in Worcestershire.

Nestled in a quiet residential area, close to Bewdley and Kidderminster, the care home is close to a string of shops, cafés and other attractions.

That family feel

Our team is what makes Ravenhurst truly special and more than just a care home. They work hard to make the home feel like an extended family, with residents at the heart of everything we do.

We provide residential care, dementia care and respite care with true kindness and compassion. The team empowers our residents as individuals and ensure they have a direct say in how the home is run. There are regular residents’ and relatives’ meetings, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in every aspect of life at Ravenhurst.

The home is run by manager Andrew and deputy manager Shirley, who between them have a combined experience of over 30 years in the care sector. Their passion to enrich the lives of the residents is embedded into the culture of the Stourport care home.

We are proud of our team and their commitment to Ravenhurst. Many of the staff have been with us for a long time, with some of the care assistants having worked here for over 20 years. This gives our loved ones and residents peace of mind and real a sense of security. Our team not only provides fantastic care, but they are also the familiar face in the morning and the reassuring person at the end of the phone when loved ones call.

CQC rated Outstanding in responsiveness

With a rating of Good in our recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, Ravenhurst was awarded an Outstanding for Responsive. Comments about the team in the report included how they “worked to make sure everyone’s needs were met physically, socially and emotionally”. It also highlighted how every single member of the team is passionate about making a positive difference in residents’ lives.

One resident said of the staff: “They are caring, I like them very much,” while another added: “I am happy. My son said I look happier and in better health than I have for years.”

We were also praised for our strong working relationships with local professionals, such as KEMP Hospice in the Wyre Forest, and the local Chaplin and well-being service. Another area which received high praise was the home’s dying with dignity programme, which ensured residents’ wishes for their final days were followed with the utmost dignity, compassion and respect.

Creating magical moments

But it’s not just about the physical care we provide, it’s the lifestyle we create for our residents. The magical moments created in the care home and how we support them to remain connected to the local community in Stourport-on-Severn.

We deliver person-centred and fulfilling activities every day. Ravenhurst has its own gardening club in our very own allotment plot. There are always lots of visitors of the animal variety, from horses and dogs to the more exotic!

Local nursery children come to the home every week to take part in some wonderful intergenerational activities. The residents also enjoy lots of day trips, including ice-skating, with our staff and their loved ones safely pushing them along the ice in wheelchairs, to boat trips along the River Severn.

Worcestershire gateway services

The team at Ravenhurst also supports older people who live independently in Stourport-on-Severn, as part of the home’s Gateway services. We offer a range of services, from occupational and recreational sessions and activities.
