Update from Sarah Clarke-Kuehn, Group Director – Sanctuary Care, 1 December 2021 (updated Friday 17 December)

Sanctuary Care Director Sarah Clarke-Kuehn

With the introduction of new Government guidelines in response to the Covid variant Omicron, I would like to reassure you that we are, as always, continually monitoring the very latest guidance to keep everyone safe.

The situation is continually changing, and we are using the most up to date Government and Public Health advise ensure we are keeping our residents and staff, and of course those who are enjoying visiting again, are as safe as possible.

While there is no room to be complacent and things are by no means back to ‘normal’, to see our residents spending truly quality time with their loved ones again has been a joy to see, and something we will always work hard to continue.

We are currently welcoming up to four nominated visitors per day (this includes an essential caregiver if one has been nominated – if there is no essential caregiver, then the total number of nominated visitors is four) for each resident in England. While visits can continue to be as long as loved ones and residents wish, they will remain by appointment only.

If the resident lacks capacity the family should be consulted on who can visit.

Residents are continuing to enjoy visits in the comfort of their own bedroom as well as in our outdoor pods.*

Please take a moment to read some comments from relatives showing their appreciation for our amazing staff, who continue to do a phenomenal job to protect our residents and those closest to their hearts:

“It has been such a hard time for care staff and residents in care homes, although you wouldn't know this when you go as the staff are always so upbeat.”

“After all their hard work during the pandemic and the tireless and selfless care they provide, it was really so much appreciated. The staff are a credit to their employer and do a fantastic job.”

“I cannot thank the staff enough, especially after the last 18 months for being amazing.”

“I want to express my grateful thanks to them all for all that they have done, in very difficult circumstances, to look after not only my Mum but the other residents.”

“Even through Covid restrictions, we have been able to visit safely - something I’m very grateful for.”

Guidance for visitors

As always, we urge all loved ones to speak with our Home Managers or our care home teams on guidance on visiting, as well as our PPE guidance. For those enquiring about care, our friendly Enquiry Support Team can answer any questions you may have.

We hope you find this update useful. If you do have any questions for your local care home manager, please find their contact details here or for those looking into care options, our friendly Enquiry Support Team advisors are only a phone call away on 0800 917 0478.
