Masline is a Queen’s Nurse!

Masline Chitura with her Queen's Nurse accolade

The team at Sanctuary Care are bursting with pride after one of our nurses was honoured to receive her Queen’s Nurse badge and certificate at a special ceremony this week.

Masline Chitura started working for Sanctuary Care in 2016 as a physical health nurse; today she is Head of Clinical Improvement, advising and supporting nurses across our care homes in England and Scotland.

The prestigious Queen’s Nurse (QN) title is bestowed by community nursing charity The Queen’s Nurse Institute. It’s given to leaders and role models who are exceptional community practitioners, dedicated to providing the highest standards of person-centred care. There are fewer than 2,000 QNs in the whole of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Following this week’s ceremony in London, Masline said: “I feel very honoured to be awarded the Queen’s Nurse title. It was very humbling to be recognised, as nurses are so hardworking, selfless and give so much to this profession.

“This award is a great testament to all the collaborative work that we have done here at Sanctuary Care and beyond. I don’t see it as just a prestigious title awarded only to me, but rather as a group achievement awarded to everyone that I’ve had the opportunity to work with.”

With a thirst for knowledge, Masline has achieved so much in her career to date. She is doing two Masters Degrees – one in Infection, Prevention and Control and another in Workforce Education. Everything she learns is used to continually shape Sanctuary Care’s policies, procedures and training, so our staff are always learning and providing care based on the latest research-based evidence. Masline is also part of a European wound management network and a member of the Infection Prevention Society.

Masline has a talent for spotting and nurturing potential, and with her guidance and support, the careers of so many of her colleagues have flourished.

A finalist for the Nurse of the Year accolade in the Nursing Times Awards 2022, Masline also made the shortlist for the Julie Bolus Rising Star Nursing Award.

Well done Masline, we are all so proud of you!
