Meet Nicola, our Manager at Kintyre House
Nicola began her career in care at just 16, taking a Saturday job in a sister home to Mull Hall while still at school. Initially, she had no plans to work in care, but after seeing a friend apply for a role, she decided to give it a try—and quickly discovered a passion for supporting others that has shaped her 24-year career.
Nicola progressed quickly, achieving her SVQ Level 2 by 17 and Level 3 by 20, moving into senior care roles and leadership positions including team leader and senior team leader. Although she briefly explored nursing and community care, she returned to the care home environment, where she felt most at home. She joined Kintyre House as a team leader, became Deputy Manager at 34, and was appointed Home Manager in February 2026. She is currently completing her SVQ Level 4 and Leadership and Management qualification.
Nicola is passionate about her role and takes great pride in being responsible for the wellbeing of her residents, ensuring they receive the highest quality of life possible. She values the wider support network within Sanctuary and is committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel at home and staff feel supported.
She is particularly proud of her personal journey, overcoming challenges and building both her confidence and independence. Outside of work, Nicola enjoys spending time in her garden, which she developed herself, as well as walking, socialising with friends and caring for her three cats.
Her advice to families is to take time when choosing a home—visit, observe the atmosphere and interactions, and ensure it feels warm, personal and right for their loved one.
