Cedar Court Care Home in Seaham
Situated just a short drive from the town’s picturesque sandy beach, Cedar Court provides elderly person-centred residential, nursing, dementia, respite and palliative care in a calm and comfortable environment.
Naturally, we love to make the most of our coastal location. The home’s minibus gives residents every opportunity to enjoy regular walks along the beach and take in the fresh sea air.
When you walk through our home’s doors, you’ll be welcomed by a loyal and exceptionally compassionate team, committed to making a difference to our residents’ lives. They share special bonds with our residents – often coming in on their days off or to help when there’s a special occasion to celebrate.
Our care home in Seaham was rated Good in every area inspected in the most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report. The report highlighted our team’s caring nature with the comment, “I think they’re marvellous, they’re lovely staff.” We’re proud of our warm and friendly atmosphere, and we’re always looking to welcome new residents to our home.
What facilities can Cedar Court care home offer residents?
Cedar Court Residential and Nursing Home has a whole host of excellent facilities designed to help our residents live as comfortably as possible.
We encourage our residents to get out and enjoy the outdoors (weather permitting) in our wheelchair accessible gardens. The flowerbeds provide the perfect opportunity for keen horticulturalists to get involved in making the space look its very best.
Cedar Court also has its own hairdressing salon, complete with nail bar. The mobile hairdresser visits every week – so, residents can indulge in a spot of pampering, with a haircut, manicure or hand massage. One of our care team was once a hairdresser, so when residents have a wedding or family celebration to attend, she makes sure their hair and make-up looks fantastic.
The loved ones of our residents are always welcome to our Seaham care home. To mark those special occasions, we have a large room where celebrations, birthday parties and anniversary events can be held. It’s especially ideal for residents with greater nursing needs or those affected by the later stages of dementia – allowing them to enjoy the celebrations from the comfort of the home.
Does your Seaham care home host activities for residents?
Yes. There’s never a dull moment at Cedar Court. We have three members of staff dedicated to providing stimulating activities for residents to get involved in. Plus, we also have a number of kind-hearted volunteers.
One of our volunteers drives the minibus, so the activities team is never short of help when it comes to getting out and about in County Durham. We’ll regularly take trips to Seaham Beach or to the local social club, where our residents can meet up with people from other residential and nursing care homes across County Durham, chat and play games. Herrington Country Park in Houghton-le-Spring is another popular spot we like to visit.
Some of our residents living with dementia are involved in a Singing for the Brain group in Seaham. It’s a fun and friendly environment where they sing the songs they love together while keeping their minds stimulated.
There’s always plenty going on within the home too. We deliver Oomph! Exercise classes, which are specifically tailored for people living in residential and nursing homes. And, of course, a competitive game of bingo is always an absolute must!
What kind of meals does Cedar Court care home serve?
Mealtimes are a real daily highlight within our care in Seaham. They take place in our large dining room throughout the day, allowing residents to socialise over healthy and delicious home-prepped meals – whether that’s cooked or continental, sandwiches or hot food.
Our residents views really matter to us. That’s why we get them involved in creating the seasonal menus we serve. It means there’s always something nutritious to suit preferences, as well as something new for those who want to tantalise their tastebuds with fresh flavours.
In Cedar Court’s most recent CQC report, our food received very high praise. Comments in the report included: “I’ve come up on Sunday lunchtime and it makes my mouth water” and “food, It’s great, I like everything I get. I don’t leave anything.”
