Abercorn House Care Home is a purpose-built, two storey building with 58 bedrooms - situated in the town of Hamilton, in the central lowlands of Scotland. We provide 24-hour care for older people and adults with dementia, learning difficulties or degenerative disorders.

Most of our residents were born and brought up in the local area and we never forget that Abercorn is, first and foremost, our residents’ home. We provide a safe, homely and welcoming environment for all.

Situated in the Low Waters area of Hamilton, we are close to local amenities and on a main bus route through the town. Hamilton is a large town to the east of Glasgow and is just a twenty-minute commute from the city.

At Abercorn, we believe in providing a sense of autonomy and independence for our residents. The home has a relaxed, comfortable feel and is a true ‘home from home.’

Accommodation

Abercorn is a purpose-built, two storey building. Most of the 58 bedrooms benefit from an en-suite toilet and hand-basin and, located on each floor, are a fully equipped, assisted bathroom and a shower-rooms, providing good amenities to meet the needs of all our residents.

The garden room, which is generally kept as a quiet area, leads out to a garden. The garden is a project for 2018 and we have a Garden Committee, comprising residents and staff who are working on a new design to improve the layout and accessibility. We want to maximise the enjoyment that our new-look outside space will bring to all our residents.

Our team

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced PVG check, it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

Activities

Life at Abercorn promises variety and choice which our residents really enjoy. We have close ties with local community and actively look for friends, family and local groups to visit residents as often as possible.

A range of events and activities are available for residents to enjoy, which family and friends are welcome to join in.

Our Activities Team provide a variety of crafts and pastimes to entertain our residents. There is something for everyone and if a resident is interested in trying something new, we will do our best to accommodate their requests.

Many residents enjoy Oomph! armchair exercise, which we hold at Abercorn every week. Our qualified instructor encourages residents to keep active while enjoying some lively music in the main lounge.

Every summer Abercorn hosts an outdoor event that is well supported by the local community and family and friends of residents. It’s one of the highlights of our summer calendar.

We do enjoy our time away from the home from time to time. We regularly use our minibus to take residents on cinema trips and outings to local places of interest, such as the Transport Museum.

Football remains a part of the lives of some of our residents. We now enjoy taking them along to watch local teams, Hamilton Academicals play some of their home games.

It’s important for us to maintain strong links with our community, as most of our residents are from the Hamilton area. We especially enjoy welcoming visitors on National Care Home Open Day.

Our person-centred approach to care ensures we treat all residents with dignity and respect, and with the utmost quality.

Home-cooked meals

Abercorn has a Menu Committee and the dishes served reflect the likes and dislikes of our residents. Relatives also provide suggestions for new recipes and our food plans are following a four-week cycle. A choice of meals is always available and we cater for special dietary needs and faith-based choices too.
