The Winsor is a beautifully restored Victorian care home located close to the main beach of Minehead, Somerset. Top 20 award 2015A stone’s throw from the picturesque seafront, our care home is a five-minute walk from the town centre with all the shops, cafés and other traditional seaside attractions this has to offer.

Our dedicated team provides a range of care and support for our residents, including nursing care, dementia care, palliative care and respite care.

Our care home has been designed with the usual comforts you’d expect such as welcoming lounges and spacious bedrooms, which provide a warm place for our residents to rest and relax.

The care home also includes a bright and airy garden room, tranquil grounds and a hairdressing salon.

However it’s the small personal touches and our friendly team, who care for our residents as if they were members of their own family, which make The Winsor a true home from home.

We welcome visits from family and friends and have an open door policy, so whether loved ones like to pop in for a coffee or take part in an activity, we encourage them to become part of the community within our home.

We hold regular meetings for residents and relatives, enabling our residents and their loved ones to be directly involved in everyday life at The Winsor.

Originally a hotel, we have extensively refurbished The Winsor to the home it is today. Our spacious 38 bedrooms are all en-suite and have internet access and television points.

Bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, although we do encourage our residents to bring personal ornaments, pictures and small items of furniture to make their rooms their own.

We have a number of lounge areas for our residents to use as they wish, whether taking part in activities, catching up with friends and family or simply reading a good book.

Our dining room provides a welcoming atmosphere to enjoy delicious home-cooked meals in the company of others.

Overlooking the tranquil grounds our garden room is a bright and airy space to relax in the sunshine and admire the beautiful surroundings.

The landscaped grounds feature raised flower beds for our residents who like to do a spot of light gardening.

The Winsor’s features include:

  • Spacious en-suite bedrooms with television points
  • Several lounge areas
  • A dining room where our residents enjoy home-cooked meals
  • Garden room overlooking landscaped garden with raised flower beds
  • A hairdressing salon
  • wi-fi logo  Wi-Fi enabled throughout the home.

Our team

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

We believe it is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so have a dedicated activities person to support them to take part in interesting activities, rekindle old past times and try new things.

We have a hairdressing salon and our residents also enjoy being pampered with manicures and hand massages.

Regular activities on offer include everything from baking, a reading club, light exercise sessions, animal therapy, bingo, arts and crafts and live music entertainment.

Our care home hosts regular themed community events throughout the year, including summer fetes and Christmas fairs.

Residents also take part in summer day trips to the seafront and nearby steam railway, as well as making the most of other attractions right on our doorstep.

Care and Support

We pride ourselves on treating people as individuals, so all our residents have care plans tailored to their individual medical, social and emotional needs. We review care plans on a regular basis and involve family and friends in this process wherever possible.

The range of personal care services we can provide, in partnership with local professionals, include:

  • Chiropody
  • Hairdressing
  • Optical care
  • Dental care
  • GP
  • Key worker

Home-cooked meals

Our catering team prides themselves on preparing nutritious, seasonal home-cooked meals, along with mouth-watering home-baked cakes for afternoon tea.

Residents help us to shape the menus and our catering team spends time with them to get feedback on the dishes and their likes and dislikes. They are also able to cater for a variety of dietary requirements.

Breakfast includes a wide variety of choice from cereals and toast to a traditional cooked breakfast.

Lunch and dinnertimes see a selection of sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, jacket potatoes and hot meals such as a Sunday roast with all the trimmings and favourites including fish and chips, cottage pie and a hearty casserole.

There is also an array of snacks and refreshments available throughout the day for residents and their loved ones if they get a bit peckish.
