Pershore care home rated ‘Good’ by regulator

A Worcestershire care home is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Heathlands Residential Care Home, in Pershore, was given the grading following an unannounced inspection by England’s health and social care regulator.
The Sanctuary Care home, which can provide care for up to 63 residents, was scored in five categories - caring, safety, leadership, effectiveness and responsiveness.
Home manager Netty Matthews said: “I am really pleased with the report from the CQC.
“Everyone at Heathlands is committed to providing the highest levels of person-centred care for our residents and this is reflected in the comments made.”
The way staff supported residents, ensuring they received the care they needed, was highlighted by loved ones.
One person’s relative said: “My family member’s key worker is brilliant. They deal with all their care plans and we have a really good relationship with them.”
Staff respected the privacy and dignity of residents, the report found, and supported them to be as independent as possible.
Relatives and their families were also “encouraged to contribute their views on an ongoing basis through conversations with the management team” and feedback was shared with staff.
The improved well-being and social inclusion of residents was continually supported and a new ‘butterfly moment in time’ initiative was in place where staff would take 10 minutes out of their day to chat to a resident in their room.
A communal activity room, for use by both residents and their families, was also proving popular for craft sessions and games.
Residents were also supported maintain a balanced diet, with one person saying: “We can have whatever we like. It’s a bit like a hotel. I’ve been satisfied with every meal I have had here.”
