Graham’s emergency respite care journey – “it was remarkable”

When Graham’s mother Rose was suddenly taken ill, he urgently needed emergency respite after she was discharged from hospital to give them time to decide on a longer-term plan.
Contacting our Enquiry Support Team advisor Tracy, Graham was immediately put at ease and within just one day, Rose had been assessed and was settling into our Beach Lawns Residential and Nursing Home in Weston-super-Mare.
Graham said he and his brother Jeff said the experience, from the first phone call, through to the assessment and Rose moving into the home was simply “remarkable”.
“Tracy was magnificent,” he says. “She was a beacon of light. When you are going through all sorts of emotions you want someone who is calm and provides the answers you need.
“How we would have coped if she’d not responded so well to the difficulties we were facing, I’ve no idea what we would have done.”
And Graham said that same kindness and professionalism was echoed by the team at the home.
“I have nothing but praise and respect for everyone at Sanctuary Care who helped us and how quickly they responded. The professionalism, consistency and warmth, and the manner in which everyone conducted themselves as a team was absolutely faultless.
“We needed to find respite to give us space to make a decision on what the future holds. Mum is booked in for two weeks but I am absolutely certain that will be extended. It is so reassuring to know that we have that option to extend or make things permanent if that is what’s needed.”
Graham said everyone he has dealt with has been “empathetic, sympathetic and understanding” in the way they’ve supported the family through this crisis.
