A garden transformation to be proud of

An aerial view of the garden space with patio furniture

Residents at our care home in Wavertree, Liverpool are enjoying their beautifully revamped garden, after winning Sanctuary Care’s Garden Design Competition.

The teams and residents across our homes were invited to create plans for their dream garden, with six winning care homes securing £10,000 of funding to turn their dreams into reality.

The first of the completed projects is our Prince Alfred Residential Care Home in Wavertree – and the residents are delighted with the stunning end result.

One of the residents who was involved in the designs, and who also takes great pride in watering the garden is Joan Grimes, who says: “I love the garden it looks so lovely. It’s so nice to look out at all the flowers.”

Sanctuary Care’s Director of Property Management, Juliette Wilson said: “At Sanctuary Care we are proud to be not-for-profit, reinvesting surplus income into our homes to do wonderful projects like this, which truly enrich the lives of our residents.

“Our own research shows that for many older people, being outdoors brings such happiness.

“The residents at Prince Alfred have been directly involved in creating this incredible space, which has given them such a sense of achievement and pride.”

So far the gardens, which overlook Mystery Park, have been landscaped with new pathways, raised planters so the residents can enjoy growing their fruit and vegetables, which will be used by the home’s chef, new seating areas, a water feature, a giant canopy and more!

The residents are also going to the local garden centre to choose lots of new plants and flowers for the finishing touches.

And not stopping there, Sanctuary Care has picked a further seven winners for its Best Garden Competition. Asking for photos of special areas that have been cultivating with their residents, seven homes have each secured £1,000 to further enhance these areas, so watch this space!
