Tucked behind Wantage Community Hospital, we have a dedicated team at Wantage, one of our four care homes in Oxfordshire, devoted to enriching our residents’ lives. Enormously proud of our ‘Good’ CQC rating (with Good in every single area), we provide residential, nursing and dementia care, palliative care and pre-bookable respite care breaks. These short-term stays are also ideal for caregivers supporting elderly relatives, who might be in need a carers’ break of their own.
We have a dedicated team, including highly qualified and experienced care and nursing staff here around-the-clock, who are passionate about enriching our residents’ lives and promoting dignity and choice.
Our residents play a very active role in how their care home is run – our two resident ambassadors are enormously proud of their roles, which include welcoming new residents to Wantage and helping them to settle in.
Wantage and Yarnton, one of our other care homes in Oxfordshire, have a fantastic partnership with Radio Cherwell. Every other week presenter John Lant broadcasts a show live from the studio, especially for our residents, during which they can share personal requests, dedications and messages.
Every morning at Wantage we ‘Rise and Shine’, limbering up with gentle exercise to music. The care home also hosts weekly Fizzy Fridays, where residents enjoy a glass of bubbly and nibbles. And many of our residents enjoy more person-centred individual activities, for example reminiscence sessions, which are especially beneficial for some of our residents living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia or memory loss.
The home also has its own hairdressing salon, with a mobile hairdresser who travels to Wantage and other Oxford care homes for weekly appointments.
Spacious and with en-suite walk-in wet room showers, there are emergency call systems in all the bedrooms and bathrooms for extra peace of mind. Many of our ground floor bedrooms have private patio areas leading to the secure gardens. And couples are able to have adjoining rooms, with one being converted into a bedroom and one a lounge area if they wish.
Completely enclosed, our beautiful private gardens are overlooked by a light and airy heated conservatory, which is a beautiful room in the nursing home. There is also a solid wooden gazebo which is ideal during the warmer weather to relax with family and friends.
Our in-house chef and catering team makes mealtimes a real highlight of the day, with nutritional, home cooked cuisine. The baking is also exceptional, with residents enjoying freshly-baked cakes and biscuits each day for afternoon tea.
As well as residential, nursing, dementia, palliative and end of life care, and care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, our respite care breaks are the perfect way to experience life at our care home in Oxfordshire. A respite break at Wantage can be pre-planned and pre-booked, so caregivers looking after elderly relatives can enjoy taking a break from their caring duties to recharge the batteries.
Paper-based tailored care plans have been replaced by Sanctuary Care’s award-winning electronic care planning app, kradle. This enables our care and nursing staff to update our residents’ plans on special iPhones, rather than filling out paperwork, giving them more time with our residents.
Tucked behind Wantage Community Hospital, we have a private car park to the rear of the nursing home, with plenty of spaces away from the main road.
It is usual for residents in care homes to contribute to the cost of their own care. Some people have the resources to pay for their care in full, whilst others make means-tested contributions. Our weekly fees are individual to each of our residents and are subject to a pre-admission assessment, which is required to truly understand the level of care and support needed.
Our 2022 weekly care fees for residential care start from £1,481 but may be in the region of 20% more*. This depends on your care needs and the type of bedroom that is right for you, from our standard rooms to our premium bedroom options.
*If you require more specialist care such as 1-2-1 support, your weekly fee could be higher.
