The Pavillion Residential and Nursing Home provides residential, nursing and dementia care for older people. We offer a range of facilities and services to ensure that both people we support and their families feel content and comfortable.

We offer the highest standard of care and access to a variety of services, activities and facilities designed to support people to increase their independence and enrich their lives.

Accommodation

The Pavillion has 68 bedrooms all with en-suite toilets and some also have wet rooms. Each room has an emergency call system in place. We have stylish lounges and dining rooms where residents can relax and dine. The halls are spacious and fitted with handrails, visible signs and wide areas to encourage mobility.

An attractive sensory garden surrounds The Pavillion and we also have a large garden and a conservatory which provides people with the opportunity to relax in a tranquil environment.

The home enjoys an excellent, central location with local amenities very close by. Durham City, Sunderland and Washington are just a few miles away.

Our team

Our care team is on-hand 24 hours a day, every day of the year and staff are dedicated to delivering care with kindness.

To ensure we continue to provide the best standards of care and support to our residents, we recruit and train only the best staff.

Whilst they receive a variety of on-going training to ensure their skills remain up-to-date, along with an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB), it is their dedication to our residents which makes them truly special.

Activities

Leisure and social activities are an important part of living at The Pavillion. People are encouraged to take part in stimulating and engaging activities designed to boost their confidence and increase their independence. We have a wide range of activities, including games such as bingo and dominoes, shopping, listening to music, gardening, group activities, trips to the beach, visits to the theatre and walks in and around the local area.

We support people to maintain lifestyles that are as similar as possible to those enjoyed at home and encourage regular interaction with the local community. We also encourage friends and family to be involved through regular visits and participation in special activities, events and open days.

Residents can benefit from regular visits by manicurists, physiotherapists, opticians, and chiropodists. A GP visits regularly and people also have the opportunity to remain with their own GP if they wish. We also have our own in-house hairdressing salon and a hairdresser visits regularly.

Care and Support

We aim to empower residents to make their own choices about how they live their lives and believe that every individual irrespective of their physical, social or psychological condition has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and supported to maintain choice and control over their own lives.

We understand that people bring with them a life story of achievements, events and life experiences and know that this information is essential to ensure a tailored care package for each individual’s specific needs, particularly for those with memory loss.

Our person-centred assessments are all tailored to the whole person and we will look at what people can do, not just what they need assistance with. Most importantly we ensure that the individual themselves and their loved ones help us to put together a bespoke plan of care. We appreciate how difficult the decision is to move into permanent or even short stay care and we aim to make this transition as easy as possible.

Home-cooked meals

Meal times are an important part of the day and our experienced catering staff prepare a varied menu of wholesome home cooked food every day. We ask people about their favourite meals and room service is provided. When the weather permits, meals can be eaten outside. Staff are always available to help residents with their meals and drinks and snacks are available throughout the day and night. Visitors are always welcome to join us for meals.
